Matthew J. Holmes

Granville, N.Y.  – Matthew J. Holmes, of Granville, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023 with his wife and family at his side following a brief bout of cancer.

Matthew was born on December 8, 1966, in Glens Falls, N.Y., the son of Donald H. Holmes and Sheila L. (Parsons) Holmes.

In 1990 he married his high school sweetheart, Dawn (Winslow) Holmes.  They settled in Granville, N.Y. where they were blessed with the birth of their only child, Derek.  Matt and Dawn were inseparable, spending 33 loving years together.

Matt was employed for Finch Paper in Glens Falls for 36 years.  He was serving as a manager in the paper manufacturing department.  He took immense pride in his work as a “real papermaker”.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting with his son, as well as camping.  Often gathering at the pond on his son’s property, making wonderful memories with his extended family.  Most of all, Matt cherished the time he spent with his two granddaughters, Hazel and Sofie.

Besides his father, Donald Holmes of Fort Ann and his mother Sheila Holmes of Hudson Falls, he is survived by his wife, Dawn Holmes of Granville, his son Derek and Mikaela of Granville and their two daughters, Hazel and Sophie, his brothers, Donald Holmes, II and Keiko of Lemon Grove, CA., Bruce Parsons of Hudson Falls, his sister-in-law Joanne (Winslow) Manny and her husband Mark of Hudson Falls, and several aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces, all special and loved by him..

Matthew requested that there be no services or calling hours.
